Supporting the community

We actively support good causes and have donated Christmas trees to St Helena Hospice in Colchester for many years.

The family-run business, located on Straight Road, Boxted has been in operation since 1959, and has been supporting the hospice since they opened their doors over 30 years ago.

The three trees will be put up at the Joan Tomkins Centre, Inpatient Unit at Myland Hall in Colchester, and the Tendring Centre in Clacton. They will be decorated with red or gold dedication tags that will have been personalised with messages by people who donate to the appeal. Two of the trees will be taken to our Tree of Memories Services where attendees can personally place their tags on them as part of the proceedings.

A number of additional trees purchased from Fred Smith’s and sponsored by Informa UK will be displayed at the Inpatient Unit, the Education Centre, and Tendring Centre over the festive period and decorated by hospice staff.

Tim Smith, owner of Fred Smith’s Christmas Trees said: “I’m extremely pleased to continue supporting the hospice. It’s a local cause that we’ve been involved with for the last 31 years and we hope to continue supporting it.”

Jennifer Austin, Personal Assistant to European Shared Services Director/Communications Co-ordinator from Informa, based at Sheepen Place, Colchester said: “St Helena Hospice is a charity that means a great deal to those who work in our Colchester office. We’re very happy to support the Tree of Memories appeal for the third year running. Our partnership with St Helena Hospice isn’t just about donating money, it’s about our colleagues working together and supporting a local charity in so many different ways.”
